These past two weeks both Matt and Meghan guest lectured during the Strategies in Intellectual Property class at Chicago-Kent College of Law. The class applies students’ previous intellectual property coursework by presenting real world practice examples. The class is taught by Herb Munsterman, Director of the Intellectual Property Management and Markets Program at Chicago-Kent and Senior Vice President, Corporate Development & Legal Affairs at Novomer, Inc. Novomer, a sustainable chemistry company, is a SpencePC client.
On February 13, 2017, Matt walked through the file histories of two patents he litigated previously and court opinions discussing these files to show how seemingly minor arguments and amendments appearing in a patent’s file history can ultimately impact a court’s ruling on claim construction and the outcome of a litigation.
On February 20, 2017, Meghan spoke to the students about trademark clearance searches and counseling trademark clients.
